        Safety equipment is normally treated as qualifying business property, so the cost usually comes off your taxable income in the year you put it into service instead of being spread across years of depreciation. On a fleet order that is a real difference in cash flow, and it makes the true cost lower than the sticker price suggests.

        What that looks like in numbers

        $2.5MSection 179 deduction limit for qualifying equipment placed in service in the tax year, phasing out above $4M of total purchases.
        100%First-year bonus depreciation on qualifying property acquired and placed in service after 19 January 2025, made permanent by the July 2025 federal tax act.

        This is sometimes described as a closing window. It is not. The earlier phase-down, which was set to step the rate down after 2028, was repealed. There is no deadline to buy against, so make the call when the safety case stacks up rather than against a tax clock.

        Safety programmes run on documented action. When a task is straining your crew, the question you get asked is what you did about it. Equipping people with support is a visible, dated, budgeted answer, and it rolls out in about a day.

        It documents easily

        Safety programmes ask you to record the hazards you found and the steps you took about them. A purchase order, a fitting session and a sign-off sheet write that record for you. Nothing to interpret, nothing to argue about.

        It sits alongside your other controls

        Good ergonomics weighs several fixes together: workstation redesign, job rotation, pacing, mechanical aids. Support frames slot in beside those as one more option, and they are usually the fastest and cheapest of the set to actually put in place.

        It works where redesign cannot

        Some jobs will never be re-engineered. Deliveries, field service, agriculture and site work all involve bending in places you do not control. Equipment travels with the worker, which is exactly where a fixed solution cannot reach.
